12/30/2016 4 Comments the best fashion trends of 20162016 has been a long year, with a lot of things changing for me, as well as everyone else. Although there have been a lot of bad things that have happened this year including many deaths, issues in politics, and personal matters, 2016 has also been a year of people owning their style and dressing the way they want. Because of this, there have been many new fashion trends throughout the year that have been so much different than past year, and in my opinion, better and more creative than ever before. Without further ado, here are my personal favourite fashion trends of 2016. 1. CHOKERS Although this trend isn't originally from 2016 (thank you 90's), I still loved seeing chokers everywhere this year, but truthfully I won't be sad to see them go. This is one of my favourite trends of 2016, but they're now becoming a bit much, and companies are selling them for way more than they should be able to. However, still one of my favourite trends because they just top off outfits, especially when you can't wear long necklaces because that doesn't go with the look of the outfit. All in all, I'm very glad chokers came back because they were featured in a large portion of my outfits this year, but I won't be to heartbroken to put them away for another 20 years or so. 2. Patched jackets, pants, and shirts -- really just patches in general Another one of my favourite trends from this year is patches. Whether it's patches on jackets, shirts, pants, bags, anything, I love it! It just makes that item look very vintage chic, but in a "too cool" kind of way. Also, I love this trend because it allows you to spruce up things you have in your closet that you don't wear anymore, simply by adding on a few patches here or there and it's a completely new piece. 3. Velvet anything Velvet clothes really just started to become popular recently, and will most likely (and hopefully) continue into the new year. Not only are they stylish and fun, but also super soft. This is one of my favourites because of how cute it looks on almost everyone, and because of how comfy it is. Also, I found velvet dresses amazing for over the holidays and will be great for new years too because they can either be very casual, or dressed up to be fancier so easily. Another side trend that incorporates velvet is wearing velvet dresses over shirts. I love this trend because it's so cute, but also so easy if you have anything velvet, as you can just throw a shirt on underneath for a completely different look. Also, this is great for places that get cold in the winter (like Toronto; where I am), as it allows you to wear it without getting cold. 4. Off the Shoulder Tops Off the Shoulder Tops are one of my favourites, because they come in so many different styles and shapes, that you can have so much variety within one style. Whether they're cinched at the bottom, long and flowy, or cropped into a short version, off the shoulder tops look amazing on many people, of all different body types. My personal favourite style is cinched at the bottom with long sleeves, because it still allows you to show of your figure even though it's a loose top. Also, pairing it with an aforementioned choker (especially a tie-up one with a bow) looks amazing for many different occasions. 5. Bralettes Ah, bralettes. You knew it had to appear somewhere on my list of favourite 2016 fashion trends. Honestly, bralettes are amazing for so many different reasons. One reason being that you don't have to wear an actual bra, which can get uncomfortable and annoying. Bralettes get rid of this struggle, and also remove the struggle of constantly having to make sure your bra straps aren't showing, as the point of bralettes is that they're seen, because they're part of the outfit. If you couldn't already tell, my favourite articles of clothing are ones that are comfortable, and these fall into that category. Also, they make so many outfits 10x cuter, by simply adding a small layer behind your shirt. 6. Oversized T-shirts
This one makes it on to my list of my favourite fashion trends of 2016 because not only does it look adorable, but yet again it's also one of the most comfy yet fashionable things you can wear. You don't have to worry about anything when you're wearing an oversized t-shirt because it covers everything and makes you look adorable while doing it. Throw on some booty shorts and thigh-high boots in the summer or leggings and ankle boots in the winter for a cozy yet flawless outfit. *No copyright intended, some of the images do not belong to me*
